Poor’s Allotment, Croughton
The Charity known as Poor’s Allotment is administered by five Trustees; the Ex-officio Trustee being the Incumbent of the parish, at present Revd Gill Barker, and four Nominated Trustees, at present Jean Coles (Secretary), Peter Swift (Treasurer), Rob Robbins and Brian Tomlin. Meetings are held at least twice a year.
Moneys held by the Trustees are to be used for ‘the relief of people in need’. It is a condition that the potential beneficiary should first have obtained all the relevant statutory benefits to which they are entitled before making an application to the Trustees, and the request must be reasonable in the circumstances. Applications should be made in writing to the Chair of Trustees; Revd Gill Barker, the Rectory, Croughton Road, Aynho, Banbury, Oxon OX17 3BD. A confidential enquiry is always welcomed (01869 810903) before an application is submitted. Trustees will meet to examine each case, in confidence, on its own merits.
Grants of money may be made as special payments to relieve sudden distress, to relieve sickness or infirmity, to assist with travel costs to attend or visit hospitals or convalescent homes, to provided items or services not covered by Social Services, or to offer temporary relief to those caring for someone sick or disabled.
The Trustees of past years have used the annual interest accrued from the capital investment to make small payments to the elderly of the parish at Christmas. This is not a requirement of the Charity but was a good-will gesture, which due to the current economic climate has been suspended.
A copy of the Charity Commissioners Scheme for the Poor’s Allotment is held by the Incumbent of the parish, Revd Gill Barker.
