Four-Seasons Wine

Look in the Sunday newspaper supplements each week and you are bound to see adverts offering tempting discounts on mixed cases of “quality wines from around the world”. Have you ever wondered whether the wines on offer from these companies are actually any good? What do you get in a “mixed case”? Is it quality wine or are they just trying to off-load some not-so-great wine onto the unsuspecting public? Are these promotions good value or is there a sting in the tail where you end up committed to paying for wines you don’t want for years to come?

The Croughton Wine Appreciation Group tasted 8 wines from Laithwaites Wines - the UK’s largest independent wine merchant company. We ordered a case of mixed wine from their “Four-Seasons Wine Selection” and added a couple of extras to make the number up to 8. You can see our results below.

The favourite White was Barossa Hills Unoaked Chardonnay, Eden Valley Australia. It scored 3.04 out of 5.

The favourite Red was Trapiche Broquel Malbec 2008, Mendoza, Argentina. It scored 4.11 out of 5.
