“Australia – off the beaten track”
The UK is the biggest market for Australian wine, and we’re all familiar with the cheap, mass-produced wines on sale in the supermarkets. But there is another side to Australian wine - small producers using old world traditions combined with new ideas to produce very interesting, high quality wines. We’re very lucky to have someone here in Croughton with some inside knowledge about Australia and Australian wines, Bruce Oliver.
We all had the most fabulous evening with Bruce giving us a guided tour of Australia and introducing us towines from Yering Station, one of the oldest vineyards in Australia, and from family-owned wineries Skillogalee, and Stanton& Killeen. We compared them to large volume wines produced for the global market. To see what we thought have a look at the results.
Best scoring white - Skillogalee Riesling 2009, Clare Valley, South Australia with 3.67 out of 5
Best scoring red - Skillogalee Basket Pressed Shiraz 2007, Clare Valley, South Australia with 4.00 out of 5
