Parish Council projects
News Flash:
Croughton Parish Council has been awarded 'Quality Status' - January 2011
Community Speedwatch
The aims of community speedwatch are:
- to reduce excessive speed in your village (within 30mph limits)
- to change people's attitude to speeding
- to create a safer environment
- empowering communities to work together
We needed 20% of the households in the village to sign up and agree the scheme was needed before our application was considered. This was easily achieved. We still await the final decision as to whether we will be able to participate this year due to the fierce competition that exists to participate in the scheme. Once accepted, a number of voluteers will be trained to use speed cameras that we will borrow for periods of time to gather data about speeding in our village - and of course to submit to the police who will in turn follow up those who ignore the village limits.
Affordable Housing
The Parish Council is very conscious of the local need for affordable housing in the village and for several years, it has worked with individuals and a variety of bodies to achieve its objective of meeting this need. To date, despite repeated efforts, this has not been possible. To do so requires all of the following stages:
- available land in Croughton which meets the County Council planning criteria
- development of a suitable design
- planning approval for the development
- Housing Association or other suitable body funding
- Housing Association or other suitable body management
However, the Council will continue to seek opportunities to provide affordable housing in Croughton.
