Current Council issues
Vehicle Activated Signs at Blenheim and Park End:
Vehicle Activated Signs at Blenheim and Park End: The Parish Council has accepted the County Council's offer of matched funding for the purchase, installation and connection of 2 VAS devices. Both of these electronic speed signs will be fitted with a data collection facility which will generate information on detected vehicle movements in a speed/date/time format. Our portion of the funding will come out of designated reserves, for which the Parish Council has prudently budgeted since 2007. Should a bid by Cllr Sawbridge to NCC's Empowering Councillors and Communities Fund be successful the cost to the Parish Council will be further reduced and, crucially, free up funds for the provision of other safety related Highways initiatives such as extending the 30mph speed limits.
Salt Bin:
The Parish Council is grateful to the County Council for heeding local opinion and agreeing to provide a new salt bin at Portway and to retain the one at Portway Crescent. This bin has recently been installed.
Roads and paths
The increasing volume and intensity of speeding traffic through Croughton is of great concern to the village. The Parish Council has, for some considerable time, been pressuring Northamptonshire County Council for speed deterrent measures. We have recently written again stressing the needs of the village in this respect and we will continue to undertake risk assessments and request action from the Council and the Police.
Parts of the village have paths and roadways which are in a bad state of repair, making it dangerous for pedestrians, especially children, to use them. We have repeatedly written to Northamptonshire County Council requesting action and recently had a visit from County Council staff. Unfortunately, they were not able to offer any remedial action in the near future.
If you would like to support the Parish Council in the initiatives on speeding, footpaths and roadways, please write to the Chief Executive, Northamptonshire County Council, PO Box 99, Northampton NN1 1AL to express your views.

Bank at Blenheim:
The bank has, after many months of waiting, now been sided out and edged, and the footpath resurfaced. This should prevent earth from slipping on to the footpath and improve safety for pedestrians as they walk alongside the busy B4031. The footpath from the Charlton Road has been transformed from a crumbling weed ridden surface to a quality blacktop.
Croughton Parish Council Emergency Planning
While we all hope that nothing will ever happen, nevertheless, in any community there is always the possibility that a serious emergency may occur. Therefore, Croughton Parish Council has set up an Emergency Planning sub-committee, which is creating a comprehensive action plan that would take effect were an emergency to happen. This could be anything from longterm power or water loss in the village, a major road accident or infectious disease outbreak, to an external event such as a plane accident or terrorist incident at RAF Croughton. ??A basic outline plan is now in place. This will be developed further over coming months by working closely with external organisations and agencies such as the Northamptonshire County Council and South Northamptonshire District Council, other local parish councils, the emergency services and RAF Croughton. Eventually we aim to test the plan by holding an emergency scenario event that will be open to all villagers. In the meantime, if you are able to offer useful resources or equipment in the event of an emergency, would like to be involved with the Emergency Planning group, or would simply like to know more, please call 01869 810 195 or email caroline@redworks.co.uk
